In this 1994 broadcast of The Dini Petty Show, Peter Frampton sits down with Dini Petty eighteen years after Frampton Comes Alive! spent ten weeks at No. 1. The hair is shorter, the new album is a return to his roots, and Dini wants to know what happened in between.
Frampton tells her straight what it really meant to compete with the record that made him. He talks about the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band movie that looked like a sure thing, the Wayne’s World 2 cameo that never made the cut, and the seven years of bad luck that followed. Then he lightens up with the guitar solo he recorded in his bathrobe at 8:30 in the morning, and explains what matters to him now.
He goes back to the beginning, too: the little banjolele case in the attic that started it all, and the influence of The Shadows, Buddy Holly and Elvis. He describes writing the new record on a farm in Kentucky, admits to the local pastime of cow tipping, and introduces “Waiting For Your Love,” which he performs later in the same visit.
In 2026, Frampton Comes Alive! turns 50, a new documentary tells his story, and Carry the Light, made with his son Julian, is his first album of new material in sixteen years. Unseen since its original 1994 CTV broadcast, this master tape has been meticulously optimized and preserved via the official archive of The Dini Petty Show.
