Lee Milteer, Kathy Kaeler & More

About this episode

In this May 1993 episode of The Dini Petty Show, Shania Twain is five weeks into the release of her self-titled debut album, and her first single, “What Made You Say That,” is still struggling to climb the Billboard charts. The 27-year-old tells Dini about the 15-by-16-foot cabin she lives in, heated by a wood stove, and admits she still bathes with a cup, a habit left over from years on tree-planting crews.

She speaks about losing both parents in a car accident when she was 22, then heading her household and raising her younger siblings while performing at the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville. She describes a year in Nashville narrowing more than a hundred songs down to ten, and her debut single arriving at the last minute before recording began. She performs the single in studio, and Dini closes by predicting she will be the “next big star.”

Also on the programme: motivational speaker Lee Milteer, Kathy Kaeler, comedy from Jim Jack, and a “Phone Home” segment with Billy Symister. The full broadcast can be licensed from the Dini Petty Show archive for broadcast, documentary and research use, so add it to your quote request.
