Phil Collins, Bob Berkowitz & More

In this November 1996 episode of The Dini Petty Show, Phil Collins sits down with Dini Petty freshly out of Genesis and, by his own account, happy for the first time in years. He is relaxed and funny, and he explains where his two most famous songs actually came from, including "In the Air Tonight". Neither story is the one fans assume.

Collins is candid about the tabloid storm around his divorce. He says he wished he could be a different person entirely, then explains what pulled him out of it. He talks through why he walked away from Genesis and about writing songs for Disney. He also describes his children: a twenty-year-old drummer, a daughter already on television, and seven-year-old Lily, who he jokes will end up a nuclear physicist. He closes on what he believes his kids needed to see from him. Collins liked the interview enough to ask for a copy.
