Ray Davies, Don McLean, Jose Feliciano & Larry LeBlanc

In this October 1996 episode of The Dini Petty Show, Ray Davies, Don McLean and Jose Feliciano share one Toronto studio. Davies, taped the year The Kinks dissolved, walks on carrying a cardboard box of his belongings. He recalls the 1960s US ban that kept the band out of America, a sharp putdown from John Lennon and an on-stage fight with his brother Dave involving a flying cymbal that ended in 24 stitches. He then plays "To The Bone" solo on acoustic guitar.

McLean arrives with his Martin guitar. He explains how Lori Lieberman's "Killing Me Softly with His Song" grew from one of his performances, and he plays parts of "American Pie" and "Vincent". Feliciano tells Dini "I don't think in blind terms," describes teaching himself guitar from Andrés Segovia records, and performs "Chico and the Man" live.

Billboard's Larry LeBlanc then joins the three at one table to talk songwriting. McLean admits "modern music depresses me," Davies answers by rapping at him across the table, and Feliciano says his melodies come to him in dreams.
