Christopher Reeve, Wayne Fleming & More

About this episode

In this January 1993 episode of The Dini Petty Show, Dini Petty meets Christopher Reeve at Lake Louise, against the backdrop of the Canadian Rockies. Petty arrives with only a single article to go on, and it turns out to be false. Reeve's reply, "don't worry, just talk," sets up a candid, generous conversation. He retells Michael Caine's favourite Hollywood story, the "ten million dollar kiss" from Deathtrap. He also recalls reuniting with Caine and Carol Burnett on Noises Off, where two-hour lunches turned into storytelling marathons.

Reeve, then 40, describes skiing gentle turns with his seven-month-old son strapped to his back until the baby drifts off to sleep. He explains his work with Lighthawk, an "Environmental Air Force" that used flights to show politicians the damage from strip mining and logging. He traces his career to regional theatre in Princeton, New Jersey, and rejects the idea of "escaping the cape," pointing instead to stage work spanning Chekhov, Shaw and Shakespeare. Wayne Fleming also appears.
